Together for Positive Change

The National Community Project

The National Community Project serves as a unified digital home for four distinct Community Interest Companies (CICs), each working tirelessly to address pressing social challenges in their respective fields. Whilst each organisation operates independently as a registered CIC, this website brings together their shared commitment to community empowerment, social justice, and positive change.

Our collaborative approach recognises that the most effective solutions emerge from within communities themselves. Across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, millions of people face significant barriers to accessing essential services, from legal support to educational opportunities, from community security to local empowerment initiatives. The statistics paint a clear picture of need: one in ten people don’t feel safe in their local area,
6.6 million adults struggle with basic literacy, and million people lack access to local legal aid providers. These aren’t merely numbers—they represent our neighbours, friends, and fellow community members who deserve better.

Building Stronger Communities Together

The strength of our movement lies not just in our organisational structure, but in how effectively we connect and empower diverse communities to thrive as one. Each of our Community Interest Companies addresses a specific aspect of community wellbeing, yet all share a fundamental belief: that lasting change comes from within communities themselves, supported by dedicated professionals who understand local needs and challenges.

One Community Ely CIC works in Cardiff’s Ely district, where 59.1% of children are eligible for free school meals—the highest rate in Wales. In an area where nearly three-quarters of households face some form of deprivation, this grassroots initiative focuses on rebuilding community spirit and creating opportunities for residents, particularly young people, to reach their full potential. The National Community Security Project CIC operates at the intersection of professional security services and social enterprise. With 48% of people across England and Wales expressing concern about crime and anti-social behaviour, and one in ten reporting they don’t feel safe in their local area, this innovative CIC provides community-embedded security solutions whilst creating employment opportunities and delivering accredited training programmes. The National Public Education Project CIC addresses the stark reality that 6.6 million adults in England have very poor literacy skills, whilst 48% of adults haven’t participated in any learning in the past three years. This organisation democratises knowledge through accessible, community-led education that empowers individuals to navigate complex societal structures and participate fully in democratic processes. National Community Law Project CIC tackles the legal aid desert crisis, where 90% of people lack access to local education legal aid providers and 43.6% cannot access housing legal aid locally. Led by dedicated law students and graduates, this CIC bridges the gap between people and justice through community-based legal guidance and referrals. Together, we have the power to create real change. The National Community Project is built on the belief that every voice matters and every action counts. By uniting passion, purpose, and people, we can uplift communities, spark hope, and build a future where everyone belongs. Change doesn’t start at the top—it starts with us. Let’s rise together.
